A century-old sanctuary nestled where the Doon Valley meets the foothills of the great Himalayas — crafted not just as a hotel, but as a feeling you carry home.
In 1924, a retired British officer named Colonel Aldous Hillwood arrived in Dehradun and fell irreversibly in love — with the pine-covered ridges, the sacred Ganges winds, and the impossible silence of the valley at dawn. He built not a hotel, but a home for strangers.
“We do not rent rooms. We offer a pause — a breath drawn in the shadow of the Himalayas, where time surrenders its urgency.”
Over a century later, that original vision lives in every polished corridor, every scented garden walk, every sunset served from our rooftop terrace. The Himalayas have not moved. Neither have we.
Our Story
What We Believe In
At Hillwood, every decision — from the thread count of your linen to the timing of your morning tea — is guided by a set of values that have shaped us since 1924.
Quiet Devotion
True hospitality is invisible. It is the perfectly timed gesture, the door that opens before you reach it, the fire that is always at the right height.
Rooted Heritage
We are of this valley. The recipes in our kitchen, the stones of our walls, the stories our staff tell — all drawn from Uttarakhand's ancient soul.
Considered Luxury
Luxury is not loudness. It is a cashmere robe waiting. A view unobstructed. A silence that is itself a gift. We curate for the soul, not for show.
"We believe the most
generous thing a hotel can
offer is
unhurried time.
